Keppinger expected back at end of week

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Chicago White Sox third baseman Jeff Keppinger was held out of action for the second straight day with right shoulder soreness. The team is expecting him back in the lineup at the end of the week.

The Sox did not announce if Kippinger had any shoulder imaging or an MRI.

Keppinger broke his right fibula in an offseason accident that impacted his conditioning over the winter. The veteran infielder signed a three-year, $12 million contract with the Sox in the offseason.

Sox manager Robin Ventura said he was not worried about Keppinger missing a few games in spring training. He alluded to the fact that there are still three weeks until opening day.

Keppinger is penciled in as the replacement for Kevin Youkilis, who signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the New York Yankees in the offseason.
