Beckham return pushed back a day

CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham will now resume his minor league rehab assignment Thursday night with a June 6 return to the major leagues as a possibility.

The White Sox originally thought Beckham would return Wednesday from a minor setback in his recovery from a hand injury. Beckham broke the hamate bone in his left hand early in April and has been out ever since after having surgery.

"Tonight he's probably taking batting practice and going through a regular pregame," manager Robin Ventura said. "He'll play tomorrow."

The White Sox think a week of minor league games could get him back up to speed. He was close to a return last week before soreness in his hand surfaced and he was sidelined.

Ventura said Beckham is not expected back during the upcoming West Coast road trip to Oakland and Seattle. The White Sox return home to face the Athletics on June 6 and Beckham could be their second basemen then if all goes well.
