ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Here’s a quick look at the 3-1 loss by the Chicago White Sox to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday at Tropicana Field.

How it happened: Despite receiving a solid pitching performance by starter John Danks, the White Sox failed to generate much at the plate, suffering their seventh series sweep of the season. Rookie catcher Josh Phegley collected his first career home run with a solo shot to left off Rays left-hander David Price in the sixth inning but the White Sox failed to do anything after that. Danks surrendered two runs on sacrifice flies and had his third consecutive quality start.

What it means: The White Sox were swept for the seventh time this season. They lost for the ninth time in the past 11 games. They sit dead last in the AL Central at 34-51.

Outside the box: Despite the overall dismal offensive production, Gordon Beckham continues to swing the bat well since coming off the disabled list on June 3. Over the last 13 games, he is 20-for-46, including a 2-for-4 performance on Sunday. He is 39-for-113 in 31 games since returning from the DL.

Up next: The White Sox will play a makeup game at home against the Chicago Cubs on Monday before continuing their road trip with a three-game series at first-place Detroit starting Tuesday. Hector Santiago (3-5, 3.50 ERA) will take the mound for the Sox in a battle against Cubs righthander Matt Garza (4-1, 3.45 ERA) in a 7:10 p.m. start at U.S.Cellular Field.
