CLEVELAND – With the possibility that Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy could be traded at any moment, highly-regarded pitching prospect Andre Rienzo arrived in Cleveland on Monday.

If the White Sox trade Peavy, Rienzo could not only take his roster spot, but also take his starting slot Tuesday against the Indians. The right-hander, who pitched a no-hitter in his last start at Triple-A Charlotte, has not pitched in the major leagues, but he is on the 40-man roster.

Even if Peavy is not traded by game time Tuesday, the White Sox could still hold the veteran back from that start and use Rienzo instead, although he would have to replace somebody on the current roster.

Rienzo, who participated in the World Baseball Classic this spring for Brazil, is 8-6 this season with a 4.06 ERA at Charlotte, but has been dominating of late having given up just 12 earned runs over his last 10 starts.

The 25-year-old, who was in New York earlier this month to participate in the Futures Game, last pitched on July 25, perfectly lining him up to pitch Tuesday on regular rest.

“If something comes up there might have to be a move made,” manager Robin Ventura said, when asked if Dylan Axelrod was a starting option Tuesday. “That could happen.”
