CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox released their 2014 schedule Tuesday with the team playing host to home series at the beginning and end of the season.
Opening Day takes place Monday, March 31 at U.S. Cellular Field against the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox will also close the year with a four-game series at home against the Kansas City Royals.
It will be the second consecutive season the White Sox play host to the season opener at home and seventh time in the last 10 seasons.
The annual White Sox-Cubs crosstown series takes place May 5-6 at Wrigley Field and May 7-8 at U.S Cellular Field. It is the second consecutive year there are just four games in the season series.
In other interleague series, the White Sox will play at Colorado, San Francisco and Los Angeles to face the Dodgers. Other than the Cubs, other interleague home series are against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Giants, and San Diego Padres.
Quirks of the schedule include a week-long trip to Southern California to face the Dodgers (June 2-4) and the Los Angeles Angels (June 6-8). The final road trip of the season is a three-city tour to Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Detroit before coming home to end the season against the Royals.
The schedule is subject to change until it is made official during the offseason.
