CHICAGO -- Saying he would have preferred to keep a good thing going, Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura was ready to use his Opening Day lineup again Wednesday afternoon until Conor Gillaspie came down with the flu.

Gillaspie, a surprise No. 3 hitter in the first game, will now give up his spot to Jose Abreu, who moved up one place from the cleanup spot. Gillaspie's absence also required Marcus Semien to move from second base to third and will give Leury Garcia his first start at second base.

"We're hoping to get (Gillaspie) better by game time," Ventura said. "Hopefully he can come in and pinch-hit or something, but he won't be ready by game time."

The White Sox were pleased with the versatility available to them when they put together an Opening Day roster, and already it will be tested as Semien moves to his second position in two games.

"It's big," Ventura said. "Anytime you can move guys around, if something like this comes up you can slot guys and move them around. I think the versatility of Marcus and Leury, you can fill that spot without feeling vulnerable and exposed."

The complete White Sox lineup against Minnesota Twins right-hander Kevin Correia:

1. Adam Eaton, CF
2. Marcus Semien, 3B
3. Jose Abreu, 1B
4. Adam Dunn, DH
5. Avisail Garcia, RF
6. Alejandro De Aza, LF
7. Alexei Ramirez, SS
8. Tyler Flowers, C
9. Leury Garcia, 2B

Felipe Paulino will make his 2014 debut on the mound.
