CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox signed first-round pick Carlos Rodon on Wednesday for $6.45 million, according to multiple media reports.

Jeff Gravley, a reporter at CBS television affiliate WRAL in Raleigh, North Carolina, first reported Wednesday that Rodon was headed to Chicago to sign a deal. Terms of the contract were first reported by CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.

The left-hander out of North Carolina State was the third overall selection in the 2014 first-year player draft. He is considered to be one of the most major league-ready players selected in the June draft and is expected to have a quick ascent through the minor leagues.

Rodon, 21, was 25-10 during his three seasons at NC State with a 2.24 ERA. He pitched eight complete games with 436 strikeouts in 345 2/3 innings.

According to Gravley, Rodon is expected to report to Class A Winston-Salem.

The recommended bonus slot for the No. 3 selection in the draft was slated at $5.72 million. Rodon has been advised by agent Scott Boras.

White Sox left-hander Chris Sale also had a quick climb through the club's minor league system. After he was drafted in the first round (13th overall) in 2010, Sale made four appearances for Winston-Salem before he was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte. After seven appearances in Triple-A, he was in the major leagues; he made 21 appearances for the White Sox in 2010.
