Lindstrom has eye on next trip

7/31/2014

DETROIT -- Matt Lindstrom insists there is no timetable for his return to the major leagues, but the right-hander appears to have his focus on the next road trip.

Lindstrom will report to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to begin an injury rehab stint. He had surgery on his ankle after an injury in May and the White Sox have been in flux at closer ever since.

"The plan, they said, was to go every other day for a little bit," Lindstrom said. "I'm not sure how many appearances, but they want to make sure I can at least go every other day for a little while. And then by the time I get back here I will be able to go back-to-backs or three in a row."

If Lindstrom returns for the start of the Aug. 7-10 series at Seattle, that would give him less than a week to pitch for Charlotte. The road trip concludes with two games at San Francisco (Aug. 13-14).

"We'll see how it goes down there," he said. "That's what we're shooting for and hoping for. I think a lot of it has to do just with how my stuff is too. I'm just going to have to keep a close eye on that and monitor it and I feel pretty strong. We'll just go ahead and see and just take it from there."

Lindstrom said he has not been told if he will return to the closer role when he returns. The White Sox are using Jake Petricka in that spot now.

"I think they will monitor how my stuff is" Lindstrom said. "If I'm crisp, throwing strikes, using my stuff down, up, then I think they will make a decision then. Hopefully I can just go out there and prove to them that my stuff is ready and we will see when I'm activated."
