White Sox second baseman Chris Getz will have surgery to repair a hernia on Thursday.

Getz will miss the last three games of the season.

The problem was detected recently, although the South Siders infielder was able to play through it.

The injury was first diagnosed as a lower oblique strain on Aug. 21. Further tests by team doctors detected the sports hernia.

Hernia surgery is often an outpatient procedure. Full recovery, in most cases, to resume all physical activity, takes upwards of six weeks. Getz will have the surgery done in Philadelphia.

The Sox rookie told me he'll remain in Chicago this offseason and work out at the East Bank Club under the guidance of his team's training staff and Allen Thomas, the White Sox's strength and conditioning coach.
