Pierre sits as Lillibridge leads off, plays LF

CHICAGO -- Juan Pierre might end up getting demoted to the No. 9 spot in the order, but on Tuesday he was out of the lineup entirely.

Pierre was given the day off as Brent Lillibridge took over in left field and in the leadoff spot for the Chicago White Sox.

Pierre is batting just .152 (4 for 33) over his last eight games and .198 (20 for 101) over his last 27. He has also struggled on the base paths, getting thrown out on eight of his last 10 stolen base attempts.

Manager Ozzie Guillen said he has been in discussions to possibly move Pierre to the ninth spot in the order. He doesn’t want to give up on his veteran, though, because of his track record as a solid table setter.

Even as the White Sox's offense started to get back on track during the club’s recent nine-game West Coast swing, Pierre and Alexei Ramirez (in the No. 2 hole) were not consistent table setters.
