Charlotte to play with double dose of Danks
CHICAGO – John Danks got his wish and will pitch for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday in his first injury rehab outing.
Danks has been on the disabled list since June 26 with a mild strain of his right oblique. He is scheduled to make two rehab starts and is expected to rejoin the starting rotation during the nine-game road trip to start the second half.
Danks was hoping to play with his younger brother Jordan, who is an outfielder at Charlotte.
John Danks was 3-8 with a 4.21 ERA over 15 starts before he was injured. Jordan Danks was batting .260 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs at Charlotte after recovering from a slow start.
Charlotte will be playing at Gwinnett (GA) on Sunday. John Danks will pitch in that game and then get three days off for the All-Star break, before resuming his rehab schedule Thursday. The location of his rehab start next Friday has not been determined.
