BALTIMORE – The White Sox close out a 6-1 road trip with a 6-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday.

How it happened: Five batters into the game, Mark Buehrle had all the runs he would need. Each of the first five White Sox hitters reached base on hits with four of them scoring. The White Sox had not opened a game this year with more than two consecutive hits. Buehrle’s dominating run continued as he improved to 10-5 overall and 9-3 over his last 18 starts.

What it means: If Mark Buehrle does in fact retire or move on to another team he is making his last season in a White Sox uniform memorable. The left-hander delivered his 18th consecutive outing with three runs or less, tying the longest such streak in club history. Frank Smith had a similar run way back in 1909.

Outside the box: Buehrle’s 10th victory of the season gives him double digits in the win column for the 11th consecutive season.

Up next: White Sox right-hander Zach Stewart (1-1, 3.91 ERA) will pitch in the opener of a three-game series Friday against Kansas City. The Royals will counter with left-hander Bruce Chen (6-5, 4.43) in the 7:10 p.m. start from U.S. Cellular Field.
