KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The White Sox got off to a bad start on their first game of their final road series of the season Tuesday, falling to the Cleveland Indians 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader.

How it happened: Usually it's one bad inning that gets the best of Gavin Floyd. On Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader, it was three home runs that did him in. In a season when the lack of production from Alex Rios and Adam Dunn was blamed for much of the team's struggles, they were the only White Sox players with multiple hits, getting two each.

What it means: In the battle for second place in the American League Central, the White Sox now trail the Indians by 2 games. Counting Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader, the teams play each other just three more times. Other than bragging rights as the division runner up, players and coaches on each second-place team receive a nominal amount of bonus money.

Outside the box:With just nine games remaining in the season, Dunn had back-to-back multihit games for the first time this season. He is 7-for-14 this year against the Indians' Fausto Carmona, which accounts for 10.6 percent of his hits.

Up next: Dylan Axelrod vs. Zach McAllister (0-1, 12.27) in the nightcap.
