Bald truth: Danks shaves head for charity

Chris Silva for ESPNChicago.comFor the fourth year in a row, John Danks had his head shaved to help raise money to fight cancer.GLENDALE, Ariz. -- For the fourth straight year, Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks sported a bald head for the St. Balderick's Foundation, a childhood cancer charity.
"I guess they raised over $1 million last year, so this is cool," said Danks, who has a cousin with leukemia is in remission. "This isn't any big deal, this is the least I could do. I'm glad it helps. And hopefully it will continue to grow."
Teammate Jake Peavy did the honors of shaving Danks outside the team's Camelback Ranch facility on Thursday. Mark Buehrle shaved Danks' head last year.
"He did better than Mark did last year, but he had a little bit of an advantage," Danks said. "We had some new clippers this year. He did good, I think. I haven't looked in the mirror yet. There's probably a patch or two. But all, in all, it went well."
Manager Robin Ventura missed the hair cut, but asked if Peavy shaved Danks' beard, too. When told no, Ventura cracked, "It would be nice to clean it up."
