GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A few quick hits from Team Dunn’s 8-4 win over Team Konerko in Saturday’s Chicago White Sox intrasquad game:
Adam Dunn walked, scored a run and struck out looking against lefty Eric Stults. Left fielder Jared Mitchell had an RBI single. First baseman Dan Johnson, who is competing to become the team’s final position player, also had an RBI single. Outfielder Brandon Short had a three-run double.
Kosuke Fukudome was asked to give Team Dunn a motivational speech before the game. Judging by the reaction of his teammates, it worked.
“He went out there and got the guys pumped up,” pitcher Chris Sale said. “It was awesome. I was out there throwing and they were screaming and cheering and I was warming up and missing everything.”
Even for an intrasquad game, manager Robin Ventura said he liked the competitive spirit.
“Yeah I’ve seen worse intrasquad games,” Ventura said. “This had a lot of energy with them warming up and going back and forth. It was enjoyable. You can have these intrasquad games where guys go out there and not do anything but they put some effort into it and are looking forward to first real spring game.”
