TEMPE, Ariz. -- Chicago White Sox starter John Danks gave up three runs on four hits and three walks in his spring debut, a 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

The good: Right fielder Alex Rios had the day off but the White Sox’s other struggling hitters from a season ago, Gordon Beckham and Adam Dunn, were able to take some positives from Tuesday’s game.

After a two-strikeout showing in Monday’s opener, Beckham, batting in the No. 2 spot, had a multi-hit game against the Angels, recording a pair of singles to left field against right-hander Garrett Richards. Beckham also had a stolen base. “After yesterday, you come back and you work on things and get him a little more aggressive,” Sox manager Robin Ventura said. “He looked great. Defensively, I like what’s going on. I like the energy kind of guys stealing some bags and being a little more aggressive instead of sitting back and watching stuff.”

Meanwhile, Dunn has yet to collect a hit in four plate appearances this spring but he drew two more walks on Tuesday, including one that came after he got himself in a 0-2 hole.

“When he’s looking good at the plate and swinging it all right, he’s going to walk a lot because people don’t want to come to the strike zone,” Ventura said. “Even though he’s walking, I like what I’m seeing.”

The bad: Danks and reliever Brian Omogrosso each allowed three runs on four hits. Danks faced 13 batters in his two innings of work, while Omogrosso followed him with an inning in relief. Omogrosso was also charged with two wild pitches.

Beyond the box score: Alejandro De Aza, who will assume the leadoff role after a solid finish to last season, said he’s trying to stay as patient as possible in the batter’s box against left-handed pitchers; he had just 19 at bats against lefties last season. De Aza said his goal for this season is simple:

“I want to get on base as much as I can,” De Aza said. “I’m very excited. That’s like a slap hitter’s dream, you know? It’s a very good feeling to be able to take off with the team and be in the starting lineup again.”

Up next: The White Sox will play at the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday with Jake Peavy making his spring debut. The other Sox pitchers scheduled to throw are: Dylan Axelrod, Eric Stults, Charlie Leesman, Brian Bruney, Jose Quintana and Jesse Crain. Philip Humber and Simon Castro will throw side sessions.
