Santiago has done it all for the Sox this season. He began the year as a closer, was shifted around the bullpen for a while, spent some time in Triple-A as a starter and will now get his first crack at starting for the White Sox.
Santiago is 2-1 with four saves and a 3.91 ERA in 48 1/3 innings and 36 appearances this season. He threw four innings of relief on Aug. 26. It was his longest appearance for the White Sox this season.
“You watch him and see how the game’s going,” Ventura said of Santiago prior to Monday’s game. “I think we’re in an area where we have more guys in the bullpen now that we can go to.”
