Rapid Reaction: Indians 4, Sox 3 (12)

By Bruce Levine

CLEVELAND -- A quick look at the Chicago White Sox's 4-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday at Progressive Field.

How it happened: Jason Donald drove in Lonnie Chisenhall in the 12th inning to seal the win. Sox manager Robin Ventura may have rewarded Jake Peavy's strong outing, season and status by letting him pitch the ninth, but it backfired as he gave up a game-tying home run to pinch hitter Travis Hafner with Donald on base to make it 3-3. Ventura sat most of his starters in Tuesday's game.

What it means: After a combined 40 starts in 2010 and '11 due to injuries, Jake Peavy made his 32nd start of the season and most likely his last with the White Sox as the Sox hold a team option for next season.

Outside the box: Adam Dunn struck out for the 222nd time. He is just one behind the all-time mark set by Mark Reynolds in 2009. Reliever Chris Perez hit Sox catcher Tyler Flowers in the ninth inning almost emptying both benches. Perez and the Sox have a history of in-your-face episodes. But Perez went up to Flowers afterward and explained himself and patted Flowers on the shoulder.

Up next: The White Sox's last game of the season will feature RHP Gavin Floyd ( 11-11 4.47 ) and the Indians' LHP David Huff ( 3-0 2.86 ) at 6:05.
