White Sox to wear 1983 throwbacks
By Doug Padilla
CHICAGO -- Break out those tattered, ripped and faded 1983 White Sox T-shirts and jerseys.
The team made it official Thursday saying that the 2013 club will wear the 1983 jerseys for Sunday home games throughout the season. Last year, the White Sox celebrated the 1972 team by wearing red and white uniforms during Sunday home games.
The red and navy blue 1983 jerseys will have a pullover top and the block-lettered SOX logo on the front. They will also include a patch on the sleeve commemorating the 50th anniversary of the All-Star Game, which was played at old Comiskey Park.
That 1983 "Winning Ugly" team, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, will also be celebrated during five giveaway days in the upcoming season. Everything from caps to shirts to bobbleheads commemorating that team will be given away at various games.
Even more celebration of the 1983 team will take place at SoxFest this weekend as manager Tony La Russa is scheduled to attend, along with players Harold Baines, Greg Luzinski and Ron Kittle.
