Podcast: Peavy aims to stay healthy

By Staff

Chicago White Sox Jake Peavy joined "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 on Thursday and talked about trying to stay healthy.

"I threw 220 innings (219 last season), just about, made all my starts, without any medication, without any special treatment, and that's where I want to be at this point in my career," he said. "That's where I'm supposed to be. You can't foresee injury. You can't promise not to get hurt. All I can promise to do is take every measure on my end to prevent that and know that if it was to happen I couldn't have prevented it. Because I will take care of my body in the weight room and training room and be as prepared as I can to pitch every time out.

"I certainly hope the fans understand it was a rough few years, me coming over hurt, then having a major arm injury. It was tough. As disappointing as those years were, last year was gratifying, at the same time when your team ends up the way we ended up and throws away a golden opportunity it's heartbreaking. I certainly hope and pray I stay healthy. I don't see why in the world I wouldn't. But then again, you just never know."
