Miscues aplenty in intrasquad game
By Doug Padilla
GLENDALE, Ariz. – The White Sox forged their way through a sloppy intrasquad game Thursday as the lineup made up mostly of major leaguers defeated the prospects 4-3 in a five-inning contest.
Keenyn Walker, the club's top pick in 2011, had a rough time in right field, dropping a Paul Konerko popup, while losing his footing on another play and nearly dropping another fly ball at the wall. An errant throw by catcher Josh Phegley allowed a run to score.
Brent Morel had an RBI for the winning team while Blake Tekotte had an RBI triple. Highly regarded pitching prospect Andre Rienzo gave up two runs over two innings, but one of the runs was unearned.
“That's why you have an intrasquad game," manager Robin Ventura said. “There were portions that were sloppy. For me, it's good you get that out of the way now so that guys wake up a little bit and you don't have that in your first game. It's good to actually have a semblance of in-game action."
