Sox prospect Barnum has hand surgery

By Bruce Levine

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Chicago White Sox infielder Keon Barnum had hand surgery on Monday to remove the hamate bone in his right hand.

Barnum was a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds of the 2012 June amateur draft, the 48th overall selection.

Barnum was limited to 13 games played at Bristol (advanced rookie league) in 2012 due to a shoulder injury. He verbally committed to play at the University of Miami before signing with the White Sox.

The Sox said the average recovery time for the procedure is six weeks.
