Flowers first complained of lower back pain after Wednesday’s series finale with the Boston Red Sox. He said he is able to squat in the catching box, but has pain when he swings the bat.
“He is pretty much the same today and still getting treatment,” Sox manager Robin Ventura said. “He says he can catch, but doing anything else would probably prove difficult.”
Flowers has had his problems at the plate, hitting .202 in his first year as a starter. He has thrown out just 5 of 27 (18.5 percent) would-be base stealers.
“He goes through some little phases of tweaking things here and there,” Ventura said. “We still have confidence that he is going to be able to get it. He has had a few stints of going a few weeks where he feels pretty good. Some of this has been a little physical.”
