Rain knocks Rienzo to the weekend

By Doug Padilla

CHICAGO – Rain forced the postponement of the Chicago White Sox’s game against the Detroit Tigers and also ended up altering the starting rotation.

Andre Rienzo, who was scheduled to pitch Wednesday against the Tigers, will no longer pitch in this series. John Danks, who was supposed to start Tuesday, will be moved to Wednesday’s game and Chris Sale will stay put for his Thursday start.

The Tigers will make exactly the same moves. Justin Verlander will move from Tuesday to Wednesday, while Wednesday’s starter, Drew Smyly, will be skipped. Max Scherzer will remain in his regular rotation spot opposite Sale.

When the White Sox begin their series Friday at home against the Kansas City Royals, Jose Quintana will pitch in the opener, Hector Noesi will pitch Saturday and Rienzo will return to the rotation for Sunday’s game.

No reschedule date has been announced for Tuesday's rained out game. It is not expected to be made up during this current series. The Tigers return to Chicago one more time this season, the weekend of Aug. 29-31.
