Extra Bases: Danks carries momentum
By Doug Padilla
CHICAGO –- The John Danks train has some pretty good momentum now and will get a chance to hit another gear Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Angels.
Just under two years shy of his shoulder surgery, Danks has found a pitching style that suits him and is finally looking like the pitcher who signed a five-year, $65 million deal before the 2012 season.
Danks is now 4-1 with a 3.41 ERA over his last five starts, a shift that came with a few slight mechanical changes as well as a shift more toward the third-base side of the pitching rubber.
Home has really been Danks’ haven this year. He is 4-2 at U.S. Cellular Field this season with a 2.77 ERA in eight outings.
With some uncertainty at the back end of the White Sox’s rotation, it’s up to Danks, Chris Sale and Jose Quintana to steady things and all three have been dependable most of the season.
Against the Angels in his career, Danks has been better than his 3-4 record in 10 starts might indicate. The left-hander has a 3.20 career ERA against the American League West club in 64 2/3 innings.
