Here's a quick look at the White Sox's extra-inning loss on Saturday.
How it happened: Corey Patterson’s 14th-inning solo homer off Gavin Floyd ended the game, but with the Sox leaving four runners on base in extra innings, one could argue the game shouldn’t have gotten to that point. Juan Rivera’s three-run double in the seventh off Jesse Crain, which gave Toronto an 8-6 lead, looked like it might have been a blow from which the White Sox couldn’t recover. The White Sox, however, staged a rare rally. Brent Lillibridge tripled, then scored on a passed ball in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to one. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Paul Konerko doubled home Alexei Ramirez to tie it.
What it means: The White Sox have had opportunities to win each of the first three games of their set in Toronto and have only come away with one win. If this team is going to get back in the division race, it’s going to need to win some close games.Stat of the game: Juan Pierre went 0-for-6 Saturday, ending his 12-game hitting streak. It’s worth noting that Pierre laid down a successful bunt in the top of the 10th.
