CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox are prepared to celebrate Derek Jeter's historic career before Sunday's series finale of the upcoming four-game series with the New York Yankees.

Jeter
There is no confirmation of what the White Sox will present to Jeter as a farewell gift before he heads into retirement this offseason, but it is expected to be a celebration of playing history at Comiskey Park/U.S. Cellular Field.

The White Sox gave a similar gift to Mariano Rivera last year as he approached retirement. Before an August game in Chicago, Rivera was presented a framed scorecard from his first appearance at Comiskey Park, which was actually a start when the right-hander went eight shutout innings, allowing two hits while striking out 11.

Rivera was also presented a framed photo collage from a Yankees/White Sox game in September of 2001. That was the first game for both teams after the disruption in play following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York. White Sox fans expressed their unity with the Yankees and New York City by waving American flags and displaying a number of hand-held signs with expressions of support.

Gifts that Jeter already has received in his final visits to ballparks this year include custom cowboy boots from the Houston Astros, a stand-up paddle board from the Los Angeles Angels, a No. 2 from the Wrigley Field scoreboard to match his uniform number, and a subway-tile mosaic displaying the No. 2 from the New York Mets.
