Belisario makes his departure official

11/28/2014

CHICAGO-- Relief pitcher Ronald Belisario officially parted ways with the Chicago White Sox on Friday as he elected to become a free agent.

Belisario was designated for assignment Nov. 20, the first move in what was expected to be a parting between the two parties. Rather than accept an outright assignment to the minor leagues, Belisario invoked his right to head into free agency.

The 31-year-old was wildly inconsistent in his only season with the White Sox. Signed for $3 million after parting ways with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Belisario had a 5.56 ERA over 66 1/3 innings. He started fast, took over the closer role for an injured Matt Lindstrom and then struggled mightily thereafter.

In save situations, Belisario had a 6.75 ERA and had four blown saves in 12 chances.
