The Chicago Blackhawks held an optional skate on Thursday following their overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings. Antti Niemiwas the winner in goal on Wednesday, so the question of who gets the net this weekend was put to coach Joel Quenneville.
“We have back-to-back games,” Quenenville said. “I think they will each get a chance to start.”
There is no indication on how they would split the games. The Hawks play in Philadelphia on Saturday and then host Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Sunday. Washington is the highest scoring team in the NHL by a wide margin.
Only a handful of skaters were on the ice after the Hawks took their team photos on Thursday. The ones that were wore their teammates jerseys. Andrew Ladd had the “C” on his chest and Jonathan Toews' No. 19 on his back.
Dustin Byfuglien wore Patrick Sharp’s No. 10 while Adam Burish had Marian Hossa’s No. 81.
“We were having some fun,” Ladd said. “I guess he honored me by wearing No. 16 in the Olympics so I decided I’d do the same for him today.
“Secretly, I think he looks up to me. I think he likes to emulate his game after mine.”
