First-period wrap: Hawks 2, Thrashers 1

11/6/2010

ATLANTA -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Atlanta Thrashers 2-1 after the first period at Philips Arena.

Both teams took multiple minor penalties in the opening 20 minutes and both team’s power plays were able to convert. The Hawks scored twice with the man advantage.

Atlanta got on the board first, after Jack Skille took a bad offensive-zone penalty. Nik Antropov converted on a feed from Dustin Byfuglien.

The Hawks responded when Patrick Kane found Brent Seabrook, who walked into a slap shot as he came off the bench and into the Thrashers’ zone. The puck bounced off the end boards, right to Jonathan Toews, in front of the net, who had an easy tap-in.

Later, Toews got an assist on a Kane goal after a goalmouth scramble in front of Thrashers goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

Rookie Jeremy Morin, making his NHL debut against the franchise that traded him, played 3:20 and had one shot on net in the opening period.
