Second-period wrap: Flames 4, Hawks 1

CALGARY, Alberta -- The Chicago Blackhawks trail the Calgary Flames, 4-1, after two periods at the Saddledome.

Mistakes and penalties continue to hurt the Hawks. Already trailing 2-1 entering the period, the visitors were playing better defense until Niklas Hjalmarsson misplayed a puck he caught out of the air and tried to place to his stick. It ended up in the hands of the Flames, who turned the miscue into an odd-man rush. Jarome Iginla scored to finish the sequence.

Then, late in the period with Fernando Pisani in the penalty box for high-sticking, the Flames scored their second power-play goal of the game on a tip-in by Iginla, his second goal of the night and his fifth of the season. It was the second goal scored in front of Marty Turco by an uncovered Flames player.

The Hawks have been outshot 30-17 through 40 minutes.
