DENVER -- The Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche are tied 3-3 after one period at the Pepsi Center on Monday.

The Hawks played a sloppy opening 20 minutes and weren’t bailed out by their goaltender, Marty Turco, but Colorado and Craig Anderson played equally poor in their own end.

The Avalanche scored early in the game and each time the Hawks responded, Colorado quickly re-took the lead. But the Hawks survived as Bryan Bickell tipped in a Troy Brouwer shot to even things up late in the period.

The Hawks got a power-play goal by Brouwer and a rebound goal by Jack Skille while the Avalanche tallied twice from players uncovered in the slot. Paul Stastny scored for Colorado after a Jake Dowell turnover.

Heavyweights John Scott and David Koci fought with Scott getting the decision.
