CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks and the San Jose Sharks are tied 1-1 after the first period at the United Center on Thursday.

The Hawks got on the board with a late power-play goal by Patrick Sharp. After Brent Seabrook put a shot behind the Sharks net, to the left of Antti Niemi, Tomas Kopecky pounced on it, finding Sharp to Niemi’s right. In the empty net side, Sharp hammered home his 21st goal of the season.

The Sharks scored when Scott Nichol got one by Marty Turco while coming down the right wing. Turco came out to challenge the shot, buy it went through him for a very weak goal.

The best save of the period by either side was made by Duncan Keith, who slid across the slot after Turco gave the puck away and was out of position to make the save.

Neither team produced many good scoring chances until some power-play time late in the opening 20 minutes. The Hawks had 10 shots on goal and San Jose had seven.
