Second period wrap: Hawks 2, Stars 2

The Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars are tied 2-2 after the second period at the United Center.

A weak goal given up by Stars’ goalie Kari Lehtonen off the stick of Fernando Pisani has changed the whole momentum of the game.

The Hawks were sleepwalking through the first half of the game, trailing 2-0 until Pisani’s weak wrist shot went right through Lehtonen’s glove to wake up the crowd and subsequently the Hawks.

A few minutes later, Tomas Kopecky followed his own shot with a rebound goal after Patrick Kane fed him the puck in the slot. Kopecky tied the game with his seventh goal of the season.

The Hawks weren’t done. Moments later Viktor Stalberg was tripped on the way to the net and given a penalty shot. His back-hand attempt hit both posts and the crossbar but stayed out of the net.

A shell-shocked Stars team had just five shots on net in the middle 20 minutes, the Hawks had 15. The home team will start the third period on the power play after the Stars took a late too-many-men on the ice penalty.
