CALGARY, Alberta – A quick look at the Chicago Blackhawks' 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday night at the Saddledome.

How it happened: Another third-period tie turned into another regulation loss. That’s 14 and counting, of that variety, this season. The Hawks started slow, real slow. They had just three shots on net in the opening period, including an 11:42 drought. But they played better as the game went along, until the fateful third period. Jonathan Toews' line was having a great game, accounting for the Hawks’ lone goal, but a poor backcheck led to Curtis Glencross' winning goal off the rush. To add insult to injury, the Hawks had to finish the game a man short after Brent Seabrook got called for unsportsmanlike conduct after barking to the referees about a non-call.

What it means: It’s a big, four-point swing as the Hawks fall three points behind the Flames and sink to 11th in the Western Conference standings, although they have two games in hand on the Flames. Corey Crawford showed no signs of rust playing his first game since before the All-Star break. He stopped 25 of 27 shots, but lost his third consecutive start. The Hawks are 1-2 on this road trip and lost both games in Calgary this season.

What’s next: The Hawks take a short flight to Edmonton immediately following the game before practicing there on Tuesday. They’ll conclude their season series with the lowly Oilers on Wednesday, trying for a split in the four games.
