SAN JOSE -- The Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks are scoreless after the first period at the HP Pavilion.

The Hawks were in their own zone for the first few minutes of the game but played well in their own end until the momentum shifted to their side.
However, two breakaways and two power plays didn’t get the Hawks a goal while San Jose went the final 7:22 without a shot on net after earning some early chances.

Both Marian Hossa and Bryan Bickell missed on the breakaway tries while Antti Niemi made several big saves including one on Jonathan Toews during a Hawks power play.
