ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Here's a quick look at the Chicago Blackhawks' 6-5 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

How it happened: The Hawks trailed 4-2 entering the third period but exploded for three goals in the opening 3:33. Jonathan Toews had a goal and two assists on the three scores and then added a tally later in the period for a monster final 20 minutes. Patrick Sharp netted two of the early goals in the third and earned his second career hat trick. The Hawks outplayed Anaheim for much of the game after giving up two goals in the opening two minutes of the contest. The visitors outshot the Ducks 17-5 in the second despite trailing by two goals at the end of the period. Dave Bolland had the Hawks other tally on a first-period power play. Toews had five points in the game. Jonas Hiller was pulled after giving up the three early third-period goals.

What it means:Though they trailed for most of the game getting down by two goals three times, the Hawks outplayed Anaheim for the final 40 minutes and were rewarded. Toews simply wouldn’t be denied, but give Sharp credit for finishing some critical chances. The Hawks say they need to play better defense -- and they do -- but once in a while their explosive offense should win them some games and Friday it did. Viktor Stalberg and Duncan Keith played roles in the offensive attack, forechecking and getting point shots through, respectively. It’s a big win to avoid dropping to 1-4 on the road trip with one game to play. The Hawks are 13-7-3 and broke a three-game losing streak with the victory.

What’s next:The Hawks complete their six-game road trip with a contest against the Los Angeles Kings Saturday night. They’re 2-3 through the first five games.
