CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the New York Islanders 3-2 after two periods at the United Center.

The Hawks responded well after a poor first period. They tied the game on Ben Smith’s first goal of the season, playing after being a healthy scratch for the last four contests. They took their first lead of the game with just over a minute to play when Jonathan Toews stole a puck while killing a penalty, scoring his 14th of the season.

The Hawks gave up just two shots on goal in the period. New York scored twice in the opening period while Andrew Brunette has the other Hawks tally.
