2nd-period wrap: Avalanche 3, Hawks 0

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks trailed the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 after two periods at the United Center.

The Hawks have played steadily worse throughout the game, giving up two more goals in the middle 20 minutes to increase the Avalanche lead from one to three.

The key sequence of the game came when Patrick Sharp had a chance all alone in front of Semyon Varlamov, but the goalie poked the puck away and the Avalanche went the other direction and eventually scored when Paul Stastny found T.J. Galiardi for an open-side goal.

In yet another momentum-losing moment for the Hawks, after doing nothing with their first power play in over 87 minutes of game time, Colorado immediately scored when Nick Leddy turned the puck over behind Corey Crawford.

Leddy and partner Niklas Hjalmarsson were immediately split up. Joel Quenneville has changed the Hawks' lines several times as well, but to no avail, and the Hawks are in a big hole heading into the final period.
