Here's a quick look at the Hawks' 4-3 shootout win over the Blues on Tuesday night.

How it happened: The Hawks won it in a shootout after getting down 3-1. Patrick Kane was the lone goal scorer in the shootout while Corey Crawford stopped all three shooters to get the win in relief. The Hawks fought back after getting down 3-1 in the first period. After Andrew Brunette scored on a nifty passing play between he and Marian Hossa the Hawks gave up three straight goals ending Ray Emery’s night after just six shots. The Hawks got one back late in the second when Viktor Stalberg kicked in a puck but a quick review said it wasn’t on purpose. Then the Hawks went to work on their power play getting back-to-back chances, finally tying the game on a Brent Seabrook point blast.

What it means: The energy and fight the Hawks showed was impressive even after getting down 3-1. They dominated most of the action but weren’t rewarded for it until finally coming through on the power play to break a streak of 51 chances killed off by St. Louis. Patrick Kane was flying with the puck and even credited with a couple of hits, that’s how much energy the Hawks had. They fought back every time the Blues came at them proving they can do it when needed. The mistakes in the first period aren’t acceptable but playing without Jonathan Toews and still taking the best team to the brink bodes well for the postseason. The Hawks proved they can play tough, still skate and even get one on the power play once in a while. A great game if not a great start.

What’s next: The Hawks hit the road against the hottest team in the league when they play in Dallas on Friday against the Stars.
