1st-period wrap: Predators 2, Hawks 0

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks trailed the Nashville Predators 2-0 after the first period at the United Center on Sunday.

Nashville scored its first goal when Paul Gaustad went around the Hawks net and found Matt Halischuk in front for his 14th goal of the season. Brendan Morrison, filling in for the injured Marcus Kruger, was beat on the play.

Later, a simple wrist shot by Andrei Kostitsyn got by goalie Corey Crawford, but the puck could have been deflected far out from the net by Brent Seabrook. Either way Crawford missed it by a wide margin.

The Hawks came out strong but the game evened out after Brandon Bollig sent Jordan Tootoo to the ice with a huge uppercut during an early fight between the two. Tootoo won’t return to the game.

Pekka Rinne stopped all 11 shots he faced. Crawford gave up two goals on eight shots.
