Russell LaBounty/USA TODAY SportsCorey Crawford has been a primary reason why the Blackhawks are off to a 6-0 start.Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford was named Monday among the NHL's "Three Stars" for his performances during the season's first eight days.
Crawford was awarded the "Second Star" after winning his first five starts of the season. He leads the NHL with five wins. He also ranks sixth with a 1.78 goals-against average and is tied for sixth with a .933 save percentage. He's stopped 125 of the 134 shots he's faced this season.
"Great approach, he looks ready, he's quick," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said of Crawford after Sunday's victory. "He looks big in the net, rebound, control and effect. Coming out of the net, he looks like he's putting the puck in the right areas, too. Very happy with the way he's responded to the season."
San Jose Sharks left wing Patrick Marleau was named the "First Star" after recording four multi-goal games to begin the season, and Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis was the "Third Star" after having eight assists and 11 points in his first five games.
