A quick look at the Chicago Blackhawks' 2-1 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night at Rogers Arena.

How it happened: Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford stopped the first three Vancouver shootout attempts, but Jordan Schroeder snuck one past him to win the game for the Canucks. Roberto Luongo denied Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp and then watched as Nick Leddy’s final attempt sailed wide. Both goalies were strong on Friday, as Crawford finished with 21 saves and Luongo with 27. The Blackhawks had a flurry of chances in the overtime period, including a power play after a high-sticking call on the Canucks’ Jason Garrison against Kane. The Canucks had a short-handed opportunity on that power play, but Marian Hossa got back and got a stick on the puck. The Hawks outshot the Canucks 4-1 in the OT period. Kane got the Hawks on the board in the third quarter, tying the game at the 9:42 mark with assists from Sharp and Andrew Shaw. The Hawks killed a long Vancouver penalty shortly after, including 40 seconds of a Canucks’ two-man advantage, helped again by the play of Hossa, who won a key faceoff. The Canucks struck first on a goal by Alexander Edler off the crossbar at the 15:42 mark in the first period.

What it means: Coming off their first loss of the season, another shootout defeat in Minnesota Wednesday, the Blackhawks now have two points to start their six-game road trip. They’ve earned 14 of 16 possible points this season.

Stat of the night: The Blackhawks were 0-for-5 on the power play.

What’s next: The Blackhawks are back in business Saturday night with a 9 p.m. CT start against the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Hawks' Dave Bolland may not be available. He left the ice with an injury in the third period and did not return.
