CHICAGO -- Here’s a quick look at the Chicago Blackhawks' 1-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at the United Center on Sunday.
How it happened: Blackhawks winger Bryan Bickell delivered a no-look, backhanded pass to center Andrew Shaw in the second period, and Shaw scored on a one-timer for the game’s lone goal. Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford made 28 saves and recorded his second shutout of the season. The Blackhawks killed off three penalties in the third period and five for the game.
Player of the game: Crawford had missed the Blackhawks’ previous four games due to an upper-body injury. He returned for Sunday’s game and picked up where he left off. He improved to 8-0-3 with the victory.
What it means: The Blackhawks extended their NHL record of consecutive games with a point to start the season to 18 games. They also rank third in overall points streak as they’ve had a point in their last 24 regular-season games, which dates back to last season. They rank behind the 1977-78 Montreal Canadiens (28 games) and the 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers (35 games). The Blackhawks are now 15-0-3 with an NHL-best 33 points on the season.
What’s next: The Blackhawks close out their seven-game homestand with the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. It’s their first game against the Oilers this season.
