Ray Emery to start against Oilers

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery will start against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

Corey Crawford started in goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. He made 28 saves and improved to 8-0-3 with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage.

Emery started the previous four games while Crawford was out with an upper-body injury. Emery is 7-0-0 with a 2.10 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.

“Corey is coming off the injury here, and we were waiting to see how things went (Sunday),” Quenneville said prior to Monday’s game. “Full workload, and I thought he handled it well, so Ray is going tonight.”

Quenneville said he doesn’t like to plan his starting goaltender well ahead of time, but he was happy with the way both goaltenders were currently playing.

“I don’t think you want to go too far in advance when you're looking at the goalies because things change quickly,” Quenneville said. “A lot of times their play will dictate that. But it’s a real healthy situation right now with the quality and consistency of the goaltending.”
