CHICAGO -- Here's a quick look at the Chicago Blackhawks' 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche at the United Center on Wednesday.

How it happened: The Blackhawks extended their points streak to 24 games, and forward Daniel Carcillo scored with 49.3 seconds left in the third period to lift them to the win. Jonathan Toews also scored a short-handed goal in the period to rally the Blackhawks back from a 2-1 deficit. The Blackhawks won despite missing three key players to injury. Forward Marian Hossa was a late scratch to the game, center Andrew Shaw didn't return after the second period and forward Patrick Sharp left the game in the third period. Blackhawks goaltender Ray Emery improved to 10-0-0. Shaw scored a power-play goal in the first period.

Player of the game: Carcillo scored his biggest goal as a Blackhawk. The last-minute, tiebreaking goal was his first of the season and third in the 37 games he's played since coming to the team last season.

What it means: The Blackhawks extended their NHL-record points streak to start a season to 24 games, the halfway point of the lockout-shortened season. They also have an overall points streak of 30 regular-season games, which dates back to last season. They trail the 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers' 35-game streak. The Flyers were 25-0-10 during their streak. The Blackhawks are now 21-0-3 with an NHL-best 45 points on the season.

What's next: The Blackhawks play the Avalanche again on Friday in Denver.
