Raanta was injured Saturday when he took a shot off the leg in the first period. He attempted to stay in the game and made one more save, but he left the game shortly later. He saved all four shots he faced in 5:36 of ice time.
The Blackhawks signed the 24-year-old Raanta to a one-year deal in June after he was voted the regular-season and playoff MVP of the SM-liiga in Finland. He had a 21-10-11 record, 1.85 goals-against average and .943 save percentage in the regular season and a 1.45 goals-against average and .955 save percentage in the playoffs.
Raanta began the season with the IceHogs to get accustomed to the North American style of game and smaller rink. He is expected to play for the Blackhawks at some point this season.
Raanta was replaced by Kent Simpson on Saturday. The 21-year-old Simpson made 49 saves on 51 shots, and the IceHogs lost 3-1 to the San Antonio Rampage. Simpson was selected by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2010 draft.
The IceHogs recalled 21-year-old goaltender Mac Carruth from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye on Sunday. He is a Blackhawks’ 2010 seventh-round draft pick.
The IceHogs play their second game of the season on Sunday against the Texas Stars.
