WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Jeremy Morin is making his second jump from the American Hockey League to the National Hockey League this season, joining the Chicago Blackhawks before Thursday's game against the Winnipeg Jets. His first time up wasn’t what he hoped for, but in the wake of Bryan Bickell's lower-body injury, Morin has a second chance to prove his worth.

“I just need to be an all-around player,” said Morin. “Not turning pucks over, be better defensively and play hard, create opportunities when I get the ice time and play my game.”

Morin said he learned a lot from his last experience and tried to put it to good use with Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.

“Obviously, every time you come up you try to learn and try to get better, that is what I try to do,“ Morin said. “I went down there and played two games and just tried to bring some of those things you learn up here -- the intensity -- and how to play the right way.

“Now I got my opportunity -- just play the same way, don’t change too much and try to have a strong game.”

Morin said that he has had support from his teammates in Chicago, who have helped him deal with the disappointment of being sent to the minors.

“Everybody’s pretty great up here,” said Morin. “They talk to you and [Jonathan] Toews gave me some stuff to work on, just some little things to help me gain [coach Joel Quenneville’s] trust out there, and I think that is huge to get some of those pointers and translate them into my game."

Quenneville says Morin has looked good in the limited time he has had on the ice with the team this season.

“He has been fine in the games,” said Quenneville. “We didn’t give him a ton of ice time in the games, but I just think offensively we think he has got real good skills, a real good feel for the offensive zone.

“I think progressing on both sides of the puck is basically what we are looking at. I think the last game he played for us he was fine, so it’s just that consistency on both sides of the puck.”

Notes: Bickell is out for 2-3 weeks with a lower-body injury. ... Marian Hossa will return to the lineup Thursday. Hossa has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury and looks to rejoin Toews and Patrick Sharp on the top line. ... Michael Kostka (lower-body) has been skating and is progressing, but there is no timetable as of yet for his return. He may be close to returning at the end of the road trip.
