The Chicago Blackhawks recalled goaltender Kent Simpson from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL on Monday.
The Blackhawks also placed forward Bryan Bickell on the injured reserve on Monday retroactive to Nov. 19. Bickell, who has a lower-body injury, has five goals and one assist in 22 games this season.
The Blackhawks announced that Corey Crawford will not travel to Dallas for Tuesday's game after suffering a lower-body injury during the first period of Sunday’s game against the Florida Panthers and did not return. He is 17-6-1 with a 2.47 goals-against average and .907 save percentage this season.
Quenneville said after Sunday's game he didn’t think Crawford’s injury was serious. Quenneville said Crawford would be reassessed on Monday.
Blackhawks rookie goaltender Antti Raanta replaced Crawford on Sunday and made 29 saves on 31 shots and helped the Blackhawks to a 6-2 victory. Raanta, who was recalled last month, is 3-0-1 with a 2.16 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in five games this season.
The 21-year-old Simpson, who is 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds, is 6-7-0 with a 3.38 goals-against average and .900 save percentage for the IceHogs this season. He has never appeared in an NHL game. He was selected by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2010 draft.
