DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Having spent many of his formative years in France, Joakim Noah didn't pay much attention to American football while he was growing up. However, he knows enough about the game to recognize a Hall of Fame quarterback when he sees one.
Noah was asked on Tuesday about the Bulls' Thanksgiving day dinner which was held at John Elway's restaurant in Denver.
"Did John Elway show up to sign autographs or anything?" a reporter asked.
"It's weird you mention that," Noah said. "Because I was in the steam room. We had a little time in the hotel, and I was in the steam room by myself just focusing, enjoying the day off, Thanksgiving. And he was there. He just came in. I don't know too many football players, but I know him."
"So it was you and John Elway in the steam room?" another reporter asked.
"It's kind of weird," Noah said with a laugh. "But it's a true story."
"Did you talk to him," the reporter continued.
"No," Noah said. "I actually didn't say anything ... It was kind of a weird moment. Kind of awkward."
The ironic part is that Noah's chance encounter will Elway came after he and the team had already finished their meal at the quarterback's restaurant.
"I was going to say something," Noah said. "But I was like, maybe he just wants to spend some time alone and just chill. But it was just me and him in there."
So what did Noah eat for Thanksgiving dinner at Elway's establishment?
"I ate a steak," he said. "I'm not a big turkey guy."
